About CanWePaddle
CanWePaddle answers one question as plainly as possible: can I paddle this river today? It's built for casual kayakers, canoers, tubers and stand-up paddlers — the people who just want to know whether a favorite stretch of river is running well this weekend, without decoding a wall of hydrology charts.
Serious whitewater boaters are superbly served by American Whitewater. We aim at the other 90% of paddlers: flatwater and Class I–II floats, plain-English verdicts, and the practical facts — put-in, take-out, float time, best months.
Where the data comes from
Live streamflow is from the U.S. Geological Survey's public gauges. Recommended runnable ranges come from state water-trail programs, park services, and paddling organizations wherever they publish them (cited on each page), and are conservatively estimated otherwise. See the methodology for details.
CanWePaddle is an independent project and is not affiliated with or endorsed by the USGS or any government agency. Verdicts are informational only — please read our safety guide.
